Interior CS Kithure Kindiki now says that about 25,000 households relocated from the Nairobi Rivers corridors have received the Sh10,000 promised by the government.

Kindiki said the remaining 15,000 households will receive their allocation by Friday.

The Interior CS said his ministry is keenly implementing the directive by President William Ruto to support all the 40,000 households affected by the vacation orders.

“Already, 25,000 households have received the pledged government support of Sh10,000 per household, while the remaining households will receive theirs by close of business Friday, May 31.

“Those affected by these orders will receive priority consideration in the ongoing affordable housing programme,” Kindiki said.

The CS said the 40,000 households comprise at least 181,000 people who voluntarily moved from the riparian spaces along the Nairobi, Mathare and Ngong Rivers.

During a visit to the Mathare area, the most affected by floods in Nairobi, on May 6, President William Ruto said each household would receive Sh10,000 to secure alternative accommodation.

Ruto affirmed that the government had identified all displaced households and will ensure they receive financial assistance for rent over the next three months.

The Head of State also assured that he will make sure the money is not misused and that it reaches the residents.

The President further said the government was committed to ensuring that each affected family has enough food.

He said the government had set aside funds to provide them with food and non-food supplies.

“No one will sleep hungry. No child will sleep hungry. We have enough money to buy food for everyone who has been affected by floods in Nairobi and the entire country.”

The President toured the Kiamaiko area where he addressed locals assuring them of government support.
