President Mustafa Receives Warm Welcome in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya – President of the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia, Mustafa Omer, was received with a warm and enthusiastic welcome at a major diaspora event held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi. The event, one of the best-attended public gatherings by the region’s diaspora in recent memory, drew thousands of supporters and numerous prominent Kenyan political leaders.

Organized by members of the Somali Region’s diaspora, the event celebrated President Mustafa’s leadership and highlighted the region’s development trajectory under his administration. Speaking to the large crowd, President Mustafa outlined the progress made in the Somali Region over the past several years, emphasizing improved governance, stability, and infrastructure development.

In his remarks, the president reaffirmed his government’s commitment to peace and democratic reform. He took the opportunity to call out recent comments from opposition elements advocating for armed conflict, describing such calls as regressive and dangerous.

“Those who now call for armed struggle are the same individuals who once opposed the liberation movement before democratic reforms took root,” President Mustafa said. “We will not allow the region to slide back into violence. Our people have chosen peace and development.”

The president also paid tribute to veteran leaders and contributors to past struggles but stressed the importance of moving forward through peaceful, democratic means. He called on both local and international investors to consider the Somali Region a viable destination for investment, noting the improved security and growing economic opportunities.

“This region is now open for business,” he stated. “We welcome all who are ready to contribute to the prosperity of our people.”

President Mustafa was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including the Minister of Finance, Dayib Ahmed. The delegation is expected to return to Ethiopia on Wednesday.

The high turnout and spirited reception in Nairobi underscored President Mustafa’s strong support among the diaspora, particularly those from the Ogaden region, and reaffirmed his growing regional stature.
