President William Ruto has said that Kenya is a country with great potential but has been lagging because of its leaders.
Speaking when he met Kenyans living in the United States at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, the President said the leadership’s failure to do their part has largely contributed to this.
Ruto said that under his watch, it is not going to business as usual.
“I want to assure you that because of the opportunity you have given us, we want to make you proud. We want to change our country. One thing that I will tell you is that it is not going to be business as usual,” he said.
“It is going to be different. Because you know for a very long time in Kenya, Kenya has been said to be a country of great potential, which it is, but we have failed to unlock that potential not because citizens don’t want but because leaders have not done their part.”
The Head of state noted what leaders have been doing is doing what is politically correct as opposed to doing what is right for the people.
He assured Kenyans in the Diaspora that he will always do what is right for the people, even if it is not popular.
“Many times, we know what is right, but sometimes it’s not politically convenient to do it so we escape doing what is right and going for politically right,” Ruto said.
“I want to tell you I am going to do what is right. As to whether it is convenient politically, as to whether it is popular that is secondary to me. We must do the right thing so that we can take our country to the rightful place.”
The President emphasized that Kenya is a great country that can be changed for the better.
“Kenya can be that country that everybody wants to call home and that is what we are going to do,” Ruto added.
