Kenya Airways on Thursday morning announced a diversion of flights scheduled to land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi, to Mombasa and Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

The national carrier attributed the move to poor weather conditions in Nairobi.

“We wish to inform our customers that we have this morning, diverted to Mombasa and Kilimanjaro, some of our flights that were scheduled to land at JKIA. This is due to poor visibility caused by adverse weather conditions,” stated Kenya Airways.

The statement comes amidst complaints by Nairobi and surrounding counties residents about misty and foggy weather on Thursday morning.

KQ also anticipates some delays in flight departures and arrivals which might inconvenience customers.

Affected customers have been advised to make prior plans

Later in the day, the company then clarified that the severe foggy weather that impacted visibility had cleared enabling the landing of the diverted flights.

“We wish to inform our customers that the fog has significantly reduced, and visibility has improved. As a result, all the diverted flights have now landed safely at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport,”

The company has pledged to work diligently in a bid to resume normal operations with immediate effect.
