Mradi village Residents in Embakasi, leave the area over ‘fresh gas leak’

Panic has gripped Mradi Village Embakasi the scene of last Friday’s gas explosion over a suspected fresh gas leak.

Monday morning residents reported smelling a gas similar to the one that they smelled moments before the gas explosionon friday that left at least six dead and more than 300 victims nursing serious injuries. As a result families are fleeing the area for fear of the unknown.

Mr. Bramwel Simiyu, the Nairobi City County Chief Officer for Disaster Management told reporters the area had been secured and a fire engine dispatched as a precaution. He said the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority(EPRA) had been alerted on the development and was expected to assess the situation.

Nairobi County acting Secretary general Patrick Analos said all goverment emegency services were on high alert and standby to provide the necessary support. Analosaid the county was still supporting all victims affected by the fire and that most of the victims had been reunited with their families and found altenative accomodation.

“Psy-cho social support for victims and commmunity members will continue at Embakasi Health facility. The support will be led by the county social services supported by teams from The Red cross, Nairobi hospital and Amani counseling centre. More tha 60 patients admitted in various goverment and private facilities will receive the same Psycho-Social care upon discharge”. Analo said.

“The county goverment has waived medical fees for all victims of the fire treated at the county hospitals”. said Analo.

Meanwhile,President Ruto has issued a directive to investigate and arrest those suspected of colluding in the illegal gas plant in the residental area.
