President William Ruto on Tuesday made an impromptu visit to the Kibera Affordable Housing Project.
During the visit, the President inspected the ongoing Kibra Affordable Housing Project that is set to be completed next year.
The project comprises 4,054 units of one roomed, one bedroom and two bedroom units to be set up on 18 blocks and will also cater for supporting internal infrastructure and amenities.
State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed noted that the government is seeking to create a new generation of homeowners under the Affordable Housing Programme by constructing 250,000 houses every year for low-income earners.
“The President has already commissioned 17, 850 units in Mukuru, Rongai, and Kibera to ease the housing burden affecting low-income earners,” said Mohamed.
The construction of another 28,942 units is ongoing countrywide, added the State House spokesperson.
The President earlier announced that the Affordable Housing Programme targets the over 6.5 million Kenyans living in slums and informal settlements.
