Rwanda President Paul Kagame has expressed his displeasure after a generator failed to power the Kigali Pelé Stadium for a night match.

Kagame while reacting to a statement over the incident by the City of Kigali management said it should not have happened.

“This should not have happened in the first place!” the Rwanda president said.

His remarks came after the Kigali City management said that it was looking for a lasting solution to the issue.

The management explained that the generator they have installed can only power a few sections of the stadium.

It said that if the teams playing can bring an additional generator, they can be allowed to play at night.

“The City of Kigali is seeking a lasting solution for this issue. Today, the generator we have at Kigali Pelé Stadium is not able to power all the lights sufficiently for night games. However, if the teams playing have the capability to bring an additional generator, they are allowed to play at night,” he said.

The city added that they have already ordered a new generator that can power the stadium.

“To resolve the issue permanently, a generator with the required capacity has been ordered. It is expected to arrive in Rwanda within the next three months.”

The matter had been brought to light by Rwandese daily the Chronicles.
