At least ten passengers were killed, and 11 others were injured in an accident involving two passenger vehicles and a lorry at the Salama area, on the Mombasa Road highway.

The collision involved two matatus and a trailer.
The deceased included two female juveniles aged between five and eight, a male juvenile aged about five years, three female adults and four male adults.
The accident happened Monday, April 1 at night after the matatus collided head-on with an oncoming lorry, police and witnesses said.
Police said the accident happened at the Mlima Kiu area and involved the matatus that was headed to Nairobi direction.
Witnesses said the lorry driver reportedly failed to keep to his proper traffic lane and also turned right abruptly and without due care and attention hence colliding head-on with the matatus from two local saccos.
The accident also affected a saloon car that was at the scene.
Four passengers were killed on the spot while others succumbed to the injuries in hospital, police said.

The rescue was badly hampered by rains that were being experienced in the area at that time, officials said.
The bodies were moved to a local mortuary pending identification and autopsy.
The accident affected traffic flow on the busy highway for more than two hours before more reinforcement arrived to help in managing the situation.
The highway is billed as one of the leading in accidents.
This comes amid an ongoing campaign to address the rising cases of accidents in the country.
Police and officials from the National Transport and Safety Authority are engaged in a campaign to address the menace on the roads.
